Franz Wins Twice as Gymnastics Takes Down Falcons | Wikimedia by Martin Rulsch
Senior Karlie Franz won on vault and tied for the floor title as the Kent State gymnastics team beat Bowling Green on Saturday evening.
The Golden Flashes jumped ahead after the first rotation and never looked back, beating the Falcons 195.625-195.025. Kent State has now won nine of the last ten meets against its Mid-American Conference foe.
ROTATION ONE
The Flashes opened the meet on bars. Franz led the way for Kent State, scoring a 9.875 to take second in the event while junior Sarah Haxton placed third with a 9.825. Senior Olivia Amodei scored a 9.800 as the Flashes combined for a 49.050 team score.
ROTATION TWO
Franz won on vault with a 9.850 to lead the Flashes. Junior Kyndall Gilbert finished tied for second with a 9.825. Freshman Zoe Rankin recorded a new personal-best mark with a 9.775. The Flashes combined for a 48.925, their highest vault score so far this season.
ROTATION THREE
On floor, the Flashes showed why they are ranked #19 in the nation in the event. Franz scored a 9.900 to tie for the event crown. The senior has now eclipsed the 9.900 mark in four consecutive meets. Sophomore Alyssa Guns continued her strong season on floor with a 9.875, placing third in the event. Senior Kennedy Weinpert and sophomore Grace Wehry both totaled 9.850 for their routines as the Flashes combined for a 49.300 mark.
ROTATION FOUR
Guns led the way for the Flashes on beam, finishing second in the event with 9.800. Wehry and Rankin both scored 9.750 to tie for third place. The Flashes combined for a 48.400 in the last rotation.

NEXT UP
The Flashes return to the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, Feb. 19, and will play host to Ball State in Kent State's annual Pink Meet. The first rotation is slated to begin at 1 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the two squads so far this season. Ball State won the Tennessee Collegiate Classic last month while the Flashes finished third in the five-team meet.
