Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, addressed several local and national issues in a series of posts on September 24, 2025.

In her first statement of the day, Sykes criticized Republican lawmakers for their handling of health care tax credits. On September 24, she wrote: "Republicans failed to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits in the Big Ugly Bill, leaving the 32,000 people in #OH13 who are covered under the ACA vulnerable to losing their health care. 6,000 already have. Yet, Republicans had no problem making permanent large tax cuts for https://t.co/KEhX4LFRKo".

Later that afternoon, Sykes highlighted progress for residents of Green, Ohio regarding postal address recognition but noted further legislative work remains. She posted on September 24: "Green residents can now use their own city name in their address, but the fight is not over! The Senate must pass Rep. Sykes' legislation that would unify the City of Green into one zip code. This would be good for Green's economy and its sense of identity in our region. https://t.co/ewtMeJXtOY".

In a subsequent message honoring first responders, Sykes paid tribute to Jared Kneale and reflected on public service sacrifice: "Jared Kneale’s life serves as a reminder of the enormous sacrifice that first responders make to ensure the safety and security of their community. In his passing, may we never forget the man behind the uniform.

His story reminds us of the importance of supporting first https://t.co/oz8Fc4DutB".

Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th District since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023 and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born and residing in Akron, Ohio, she holds degrees from Kent State University and a law degree from the University of Florida.
