The Kent State men's basketball (6-2) team is back on the road to face the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Monday, Dec. 5 at 9 p.m.ET. in McCarthey Athletic Center. The Flashes will meet Gonzaga for the first time in program history and look to disrupt the highly ranked Bulldogs.
The Flashes have won five of their eight games by 20+ points, and are 1-1 on the road. The team has shown its dominance on both ends of the court. Sincere Carry poured out a game-high 23 points on Dec. 2 against South Dakota State. Carry averages 18.5 points per game and 5.1 assists. Carry has had double-digits in every contest this season. Malique Jacobs' 10 steals against Chicago State on Nov. 10 currently leads the NCAA and is a Kent State single-game record. Sophomore Cli'Ron Hornbeak recorded a game-high 10 rebounds on Dec. 2 against South Dakota State and leads the Flashes in both rebounds (6.9) and blocked shots (1.4) per game.
The Flashes have a deep bench that can contribute in all areas. Jalen Sullinger has come off the bench and scored double digits for Kent in three different games this season. VonCameron Davis scored a team-high 14 points on Nov. 25 against Houston.
The team is currently ranked in the top ten in the nation in steals per game (11.4).In the most recent Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the Flashes are sitting in fifth place.
Scouting Gonzaga
The Gonzaga men's basketball team (5-3) is back on their home court for the first time since their home opener on Nov. 7 when they beat North Florida. This will be the Bulldogs' seventh all-time meeting against a current member of the Mid-American Conference. The Bulldogs currently have the country's longest home win streak with 68 consecutive victories inside the McCarthey Athletic Center.
The Bulldogs are coming off a tough 64-63 loss against No. 6 Baylor in the first Peacock Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D. Malachi Smith scored 16 points for the Bulldogs and Anton Watson added a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Drew Timme had nine points.
The Bulldogs are 20th in the nation in field goal percentage (49.9) and 29th in three-point percentage (39.2). The Bulldogs have a strong offense with multiple contributors. Julian Strawthew is 12th with 7.62 defensive rebounds per game and Drew Timme is second in the West Coast Conference averaging 18.6 points per game. Nolan Hickman is another Bulldog that has stood out as he is second in the league in the assist-to-turnover ratio (2.13), while his four assists per game ranks fourth.
