Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district, has recently shared updates on her community involvement and legislative positions through a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter).
On August 28, 2025, Rep. Sykes reflected on her participation in a local event celebrating diversity and inclusion: "Rep. Sykes had a great time at the Akron Equity and Pride Festival! As we celebrate LGBTQ+ pride and inclusion, it’s important to celebrate every milestone achieved in the fight for equality and pledge to keep up the fight."
Later that day, she highlighted her engagement with workforce development efforts in Barberton, acknowledging several organizations: "Rep. Sykes was excited to learn about workforce initiatives taking place in Barberton. Thanks to BWX Technologies, ARDL, and the Barberton Community Foundation for all you do to better our community." In a subsequent post addressing recent federal legislation, Rep. Sykes commented on public perceptions of tax policy: "Rep. Sykes is setting the record straight on the reconciliation bill that was recently signed into law: if a provision in this bill – like 'No Tax-On-Tips' – sounds too good to be true, it's because it is (unless you're a millionaire)." Emilia Sykes has represented Ohio's 13th District in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023; prior to this role she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born and raised in Akron—where she continues to reside—Sykes earned her undergraduate degree from Kent State University before obtaining a JD from the University of Florida.
