Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district, recently used her social media platform to highlight local initiatives and national observances important to her constituents.

On August 6, 2025, Sykes encouraged young people in her district to participate in a technology competition, stating: "Be more than a tech user. Be a tech creator! Rep. Sykes encourages all middle and high school students in #OH13 to show off their creativity and compete in the Congressional App Challenge."

The following day, on August 7, 2025, she shared reflections from her visit to a community resource center: "Rep. Sykes loved visiting and volunteering at the Emergency Assistance Center in Northfield. With Republicans’ cuts to food assistance programs like SNAP, centers like this will become even more valuable in our community."

Later that same day, Sykes posted about honoring military service members: "Today we honor the brave service members who were wounded or lost their lives in service to our country. #OH13 is home to many veterans and military families, and we remain deeply grateful for their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our nation."

Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th district since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
