Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, has voiced concerns over the recently signed Republican reconciliation bill through a series of posts on July 28, 2025.

In her first post at 16:13 UTC, Sykes detailed the local impact of the legislation: "In Ohio alone, the Republicans' reconciliation bill will kick 489,815 people off their health care; will put nearly 100,000 people at risk of going hungry; is likely to close 11 rural hospitals and 1 in 4 nursing homes; will eliminate 37,000 manufacturing jobs; and will raise".

Later that day at 19:19 UTC, she described her efforts during the legislative process: "Rep. Sykes debated the reconciliation bill and offered amendments to make the bill work for #OH13. Rep. Sykes has strongly pushed back on Republican attempts to cut Medicaid, SNAP, and ACA coverage and has implored her colleagues to work across the aisle to put together a".

At 22:33 UTC on July 28, Sykes commented further on provisions within the bill: "Rep. Sykes is setting the record straight on the reconciliation bill that was recently signed into law: if a provision in this bill – like 'No Tax-On-Tips' – sounds too good to be true, it's because it is (unless you're a millionaire)."

Sykes succeeded Tim Ryan as representative for Ohio's 13th district in Congress beginning in January 2023 after serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. She was born in Akron in 1986 and holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
