Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, has recently used her social media platform to inform constituents about upcoming events and share her views on federal policy.
On July 29, Sykes posted an invitation for constituents needing assistance with federal agencies: "Join Team Sykes TOMORROW at the Youtz Branch Library for help with a federal agency. Whether you need help obtaining veterans benefits, updating your address with the Social Security Administration, expediting your passport for upcoming travel, or anything in between, our team is https://t.co/VTBA6B95Te".
Later that evening, she addressed recent Republican proposals regarding tax deductions related to car interest. On July 30 she wrote: "Rep. Sykes is all for tax deductions that keep more of your hard earned money in your pocket. But the fact is, this car interest deduction that Republicans are touting will do almost nothing to keep costs low for a majority of Americans."
In another post on July 30, Sykes promoted an Instagram Live event aimed at discussing current legislative debates: "Join Rep. Sykes TODAY at noon for the WTF Show on Instagram Live. She will be debunking Republicans' claims about their reconciliation bill and why it doesn't follow through on its promise to eliminate taxes on Social Security."
Sykes succeeded Tim Ryan as representative of Ohio's 13th district after his departure in 2023 and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there, she holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
