Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 13th district, has been vocal about her opposition to certain elements of the Republicans' reconciliation bill. Her recent social media posts highlight her stance and efforts on various legislative matters.

On July 2, 2025, Rep. Sykes tweeted that she and her colleagues from the Democratic Women's Caucus and The Black Caucus "went to the House floor in unity to demand that Republicans remove Medicaid and SNAP cuts from their reconciliation bill." However, she noted that "Republicans rejected it." The tweet can be accessed here.

Later on the same day, Rep. Sykes shared another post where she mentioned offering amendments to the Republicans’ reconciliation bill aimed at lowering taxes, protecting Medicaid, and supporting American manufacturing. She stated that "they were all voted down in a party-line vote" but assured constituents that she "will not stop fighting every day for you in Congress." This post is available here.

The following day, July 3, 2025, Rep. Sykes tweeted about House Democrats' ongoing efforts against the Republican reconciliation bill. She remarked that "over four hours later and Leader Jeffries is still going strong!" emphasizing that they are standing firm to vote no on a bill she believes would be detrimental for Northeast Ohioans. The tweet can be found here.

Emilia Sykes has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Tim Ryan. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986, she graduated from Kent State University with a BA and earned a JD from the University of Florida. Before her current role, she was part of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022.
