Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a U.S. Congress member representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, recently addressed several significant issues through her social media platform. Her tweets highlight her focus on health, corruption, and gun safety legislation.

On June 9, 2025, Rep. Sykes emphasized the importance of #MensHealthMonth, encouraging open discussions about physical and mental health challenges faced by boys and men. She urged for a recommitment to solutions supporting men's health, such as education, screening, and treatment.

Later that day, she addressed the issue of corruption in federal law with a tweet stating that "One of the biggest problems with corruption is that it evolves." She introduced the Closing Bribery Loopholes Act aimed at closing loopholes in federal law to combat evolving corrupt practices like billion-dollar energy deals masked by simple gestures.

In another tweet on June 10, 2025, Rep. Sykes advocated for commonsense gun safety legislation. She stressed the need for measures to bolster background checks and ban dangerous assault weapons. Emphasizing her commitment to addressing gun violence in communities within Ohio's 13th district, she stated that “Congress can and must pass commonsense gun safety legislation.”

Emilia Sykes was born in Akron, Ohio in 1986 and has been serving in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023. Prior to this role, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Sykes holds a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida.
