Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 13th district, recently shared a series of updates on social media regarding her initiatives and community engagement efforts.
On May 18, Rep. Sykes invited young readers to join the #OH13 Congressional Readers Club this summer. The following day, May 19, she expressed her support for Medicaid, emphasizing its importance in providing healthcare access to vulnerable community members and its role as a significant funding source for local hospital systems, which are major employers in the area. She stated "Rep. Sykes will always stand up for Medicaid."
Later on May 19, Rep. Sykes highlighted the natural beauty of Ohio's 13th district as part of Mental Health Awareness Month by encouraging visits to local attractions such as Brandywine Falls or bike rides down the towpath for relaxation and mental well-being improvement. She noted "Whether it’s a visit to Brandywine Falls or a bike ride down the towpath, #OH13 has plenty of beautiful spaces for you to relax and recenter your mental wellbeing."
Emilia Sykes has served in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023 after serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986, she continues to reside there today. She holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
