On May 5, 2025, Rep. Sykes celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Northeast Ohio Carpenters’ Joint Apprenticeship & Training Center in Richfield alongside members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. The facility is instrumental in supporting 1,100 apprentices and serves as a resource for journeymen across Ohio to refine their skills.
Later that day, she marked another milestone by attending the 160th anniversary celebration of Temple Israel Akron. She expressed honor in joining synagogue members over the weekend to commemorate both the community's achievements and its historical journey spanning over a century and a half.
The following day, on May 6, Rep. Sykes welcomed students from Massillon Intermediate School to Washington D.C., sharing her enthusiasm with a tweet saying she was honored to welcome them to our nation's capitol. Her greeting included an encouraging nod to their school spirit with "Go Tigers!"
Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986, Emilia Sykes has been active in politics since serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 until 2022 before succeeding Tim Ryan in Congress. She holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
