Emilia Sykes highlights local Ohio issues through recent posts

Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, currently serving Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, shared insights on her Twitter account recently. Sykes, who succeeded Tim Ryan in 2023, has been active in promoting local and national issues through her platform.

On April 23, 2025, Rep. Sykes commemorated National Parks Week by acknowledging the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. She stated, "Happy National Parks Week! Rep. Sykes spoke on the House floor this year to recognize 50 years of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. As Ohio's only national park, it preserves thousands of acres of our beautiful community, including the winding Cuyahoga River, dense forest, and ".

Later, on the same day, she addressed economic concerns related to proposed service cuts by the Trump Administration. Sykes expressed the necessity for public engagement, noting, "House Democrats are fighting to protect American taxpayers from cuts that the Trump Administration is making to essential services. Rep. Emphasizing the importance of voter participation, Sykes thanked Summit County election workers on April 24, 2025, remarking, "Thanks to the dedicated election workers in Summit County, I was able to vote early! Do you have a plan to vote on or before election day on May 6?" She encouraged early voting and shared resources for voters in Summit, Stark, and Portage Counties.

Sykes, aged 37, was born and resides in Akron, Ohio. Her educational background includes a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida. Before joining Congress, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022.
