Emilia Strong Sykes, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 13th district, has shared her insights and priorities through a series of social media posts. Sykes, who replaced Tim Ryan in 2023, previously held a position in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022.
On April 22, 2025, Sykes marked Earth Day with a call for sustainable decision-making. She remarked, "On Earth Day, we are reminded that every sustainable decision we make, no matter how small, helps ensure that our planet will be here for future generations to enjoy."
Later that day, Sykes shared her experience as the keynote speaker at the Akron Rotary Club. She highlighted her congressional priorities and engaged with the members on various topics, including federal legislation and Medicaid. Sykes stated, "Congresswoman Sykes was honored to be the keynote speaker at Akron Rotary Club, where she spoke about her priorities in Congress, and answered questions from Rotary members about federal legislation, protecting Medicaid, and more."
On April 23, 2025, Sykes expressed concern over tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, addressing their economic impact. She commented, "Americans are counting on public officials to lower costs, not raise them. The Trump administration’s tariffs will raise costs on everything from groceries to housing to apparel. Tariffs can help spur American manufacturing, but blanket tariffs across the board will hurt the hard."
Sykes, who was born in Akron, Ohio, in 1986 and currently resides there, holds a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida.
