Join the Friends of Hudson Parks for family-friendly spring activities!  Children and adults alike can find plenty to do while enjoying Hudson’s parks.

Educational Hikes

On Saturday, March 25 at 8:30 am, we will gather at Hudson Springs Park for an early spring bird and duck walk! Our focus will be on ducks returning from their wintering grounds. We will also be on the lookout for overwintering and early arrival migrants. Along the way, we will discuss some of the restoration work that is ongoing or soon be initiated at Hudson Springs Park. The hike will be led by Ed Carroll, Friends of Hudson Parks Board Member.

Join us on Sunday, April 23, 1 pm at Trumbull Woods Park for a wildflower and history walk. Learn about the history of Trumbull Woods, its flora and fauna, and why it’s important to protect these parts of our watershed. Registration is required - contact Kate Chapel (chapelkj@gmail.com or 440-897-3905) to register for this event. Space is limited so register early!

On Saturday, May 6, at 9 am, celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at Hudson Springs Park. We will take a hike and learn about the migration patterns for bird species and how to identify our local feathered friends. Registration is not required for this event and hikers will meet at the May Pavilion.

Geocaching Adventure

From April 1 through November 30, 2023, explore our parks while embarking on an adventure! Local geocaching experts Bill and Sue Holman—aka the Muddy Dawgs—have been busy designing and hiding creative and challenging caches for the Friends of Hudson Parks’ 2023 Geocaching Adventure. Six new caches and a bonus will be placed to highlight six different parks. Participants who successfully find all six caches and the bonus will earn a chance to win a prize. For more information, visit www.geocaching.com and search for the user name “FriendsOfHudsonParks.” There also is a link to all the Friends’ caches on the Friends website at www.friendsofhudsonparks.org.

Earth Day Celebration

Hudson’s Earth Week celebration is on Saturday, April 22, from 12-4 pm at Hudson City Hall. Visit our booth, along with other local and regional environmental organizations like Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources, Summit Metro Parks, and Tinker's Creek Watershed Partners. There will be a FREE collection truck for paper shredding, FREE collection truck for e-waste (old electronics), FREE electric vehicle (EV) car show, live music, kids activities, food for purchase, and more. For complete details, visit the City of Hudson’s website.

Race for the Parks

On Saturday, May 13, join this 5k & 10k event as it highlights one of the gems of the Hudson park system – Hudson Springs Park. The non-technical wide crushed gravel path is a favorite of local runners and walkers as it winds around the lake and through the forest. Start your day with a run and then enjoy dining, shopping, and meandering in Downtown Hudson all while you help raise money for Hudson Parks!

TO REGISTER or VOLUNTEER VISIT:  westernreserveracing.com/races/race-for-parks/. Proceeds from this event will support the Friends of Hudson Parks ongoing effort to bring more fun and outdoor education to the Hudson park community!

Story Walks

The Hudson Story Walks, jointly sponsored by the Friends of Hudson Parks and Hudson Community Education & Recreation (HCER), are located at Veterans Way Park and Bicentennial Woods. Enjoy a stroll through one of these parks while reading a book at the same time. The Veterans Way walk features The Kindness Book. The Bicentennial Woods walk tells the story of The Happy Tree and the Bee. New stories will be coming soon!
