Description:
This course is for UA students interested in taking the American Red Cross lifeguarding class but need some help to pass the swimming pretest.
This course will meet Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30pm in the leisure pool of the Rec center. Participants will work on getting comfortable in the water, increasing their swimming stamina, treading water, and learning how to get to the bottom of the pool. By the end of the course, the goal is for participants to be prepared to complete the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course swimming pretest. This test includes the following components:Swim 300 yards non-stop of combined front crawl and breastsroke.Swim 20 yards, retrieve a 10 pound brick from a depth of 10 feet, and swim with it, legs only, 20 yards back to the starting point within 1 minute and 40 seconds (1:40).Tread water, legs only, for 2 minutes.
