Kent State University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 24
The Kent State men's basketball team (9-9, 4-4 MAC) is back in the M.A.C. Center on Tuesday, hosting Western Michigan (4-14, 0-7 MAC) at 7 p.m., in its Coaches vs. Cancer game. The Flashes' coaching staff will be rocking shoes to support the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
For over 25 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer.
The Golden Flashes are looking to get back in the win column on Tuesday against Western Michigan after dropping a road contest to Buffalo last Friday. The Flashes will look to continue a 14-game home winning streak against the Broncos that dates back all the way to 1996.
Tervell Beck has scored 11 points in three straight games after only scoring in double figures once through the first 15 games of the season. Beck led the team in scoring against Buffalo while adding seven rebounds.
The Flashes will look to win their second home game in a row when the Broncos come to town. Sincere Carry, the team's leading scorer, will be the key to victory. He scored a career-high 32 points the last time he stepped foot in the M.A.C. Center in a win over Akron but is averaging just 10.0 points per game over his last two outings.
Kent State's defense has been excellent over the past three games, leading to two big conference wins. The Flashes are holding opponents to just 55.3 points per game over the stretch, including a dominant performance at Eastern Michigan where they held the Eagles to just 47 points.
Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan is led by Lamar Norman Jr., a former teammate of Carry at Duquesne, is averaging 19.4 points per game for the Broncos and is one of just five Mid-American Conference players to score 30 or more points in a game this season.
The Broncos are winless in MAC games this season but took Akron to the final seconds just a week ago on the road before a nearly impossible Zips 11-0 run over the final two minutes gave WMU an0ther conference loss.
WMU lost its first four MAC games by more than double digits in each one but have not lost by more than eight since Jan. 11. The Broncos have yet to win a road game this year and haven't won a game since before Christmas.
