Cost of college went up for resident students at the University of Akron Main Campus

In-state tuition and fees rose 11.6 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Akron Main Campus, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Ohio residents paid $11,463 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $1,193 more than the $10,270 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 35.2 percent more than residents this year, or $15,500. Their price tag was reduced 17.6 percent from $18,801 in 2017-18.

About 93 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Ohio residents. About 5 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 95 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 2,969 students received grants or scholarships totaling $22.6 million and 2,168 students took out student loans totaling more than $14.8 million.

Including all undergraduates (18,731), 10,703 students used grants or scholarships totaling $74.9 million, and 8,471 students took out $54.2 million in federal student loans.
