U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from federal budget cuts to local health care resources and government transparency.

On August 26, 2025, Sykes criticized proposed Republican budget measures in a post: "The Republicans’ budget cuts health care for 17 million Americans, all while paying for tax cuts for their billionaire friends. This is not budget reform. It’s a rip off for the middle class."

Later that day, she highlighted the role of Planned Parenthood in Ohio: "For decades, @PPGreaterOH has been here helping Ohioans make informed, responsible choices about their health. Planned Parenthood's work has been strengthened by the Akron Health Center, which is a lifeline for thousands of people across Summit County and NE Ohio. It represents"

On August 27, Sykes expressed gratitude following a public meeting: "Thanks to the 200 people who came to the Community Conversation last night in Canton! Rep. Sykes was joined by Tiffany Muller of End Citizens United for a great conversation on anti-corruption in government. Rep. Sykes will always work to make sure that your government works for"

Sykes began representing Ohio’s 13th congressional district after replacing Tim Ryan in 2023. Before joining Congress, she served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 through 2022. Born and raised in Akron—where she currently resides—Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
