Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed constituents on social media regarding community engagement and concerns about proposed federal policy changes.

On August 21, 2025, Rep. Sykes invited residents to a local event with her team, stating, "Join Team Sykes next week in Richfield for Congress in Our Community! Learn more about the services our office provides, including help with federal agencies. RSVP today at https://t.co/KctguF5HKK. https://t.co/Gfjv564eFz".

Later that day, she commented on potential impacts of Medicaid cuts for families in her district: "Cutting Medicaid will have real impacts on families in #OH13, like Mariah and her daughter. Their family relies on Medicaid to be able to afford the proper treatments for Mariah's daughter, who lives with a spinal condition. Rep. Sykes will not stop fighting for this family and https://t.co/LEihx4Mkvc" (August 21).

The following day, Sykes criticized a Republican-backed reconciliation bill related to tax policy: "Ohioans cannot afford to lose access to their health care and government services, just so the 1% can see a tax cut that is nearly four times the median family income. Rep. Sykes works for you, not billionaires, which is why she cannot support Republicans’ reconciliation bill." (August 22).

Emilia Sykes has served as U.S. Representative since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023 and previously represented her area in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, she holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
