Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, recently addressed a series of legislative issues and policy positions through her social media posts.

On August 14, 2025, Sykes highlighted the impact of new legislation on public service employees: "Thanks to the #SocialSecurityFairnessAct, retired teachers, firefighters, other public service employees, and their spouses will see more money in their pockets because their hard-earned benefits are no longer unfairly reduced. If you need assistance with your Social Security https://t.co/R8fQoEoOUR".

The following day, on August 15, 2025, she reiterated her commitment to economic relief for constituents: "When Rep. Sykes ran for Congress, she promised to fight for lower costs and to expand opportunity. The Lower Your Taxes Act does exactly that. https://t.co/ctr19N8r9x".

On August 16, 2025, Sykes spoke against proposals to privatize veterans’ services: "The VA was created to help fulfil the promise to take care of the servicemembers who put their lives on the line for our freedoms. Privatizing the VA goes back on this promise. Rep. Sykes will not stand for this and will always work to support veterans and their families. https://t.co/lyhQlKTQge".

Sykes began serving in Congress after replacing Tim Ryan in 2023 and previously held office in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. She was born in Akron in 1986 and continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida.
