Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted issues related to Medicaid and Social Security in a series of posts on her social media account.
On August 13, 2025, Rep. Sykes shared concerns raised during a community event: "During a recent Call With Your Congresswoman with Rep. Sykes, Tony Gutowski of @AkronChildrens discussed the long-term risks of such massive cuts to Medicaid."
The following day, she posted a brief statement about public service: "And baby, that’s public service for you." (August 14, 2025).
Later on August 14, Rep. Sykes emphasized her commitment to Social Security: "For 90 years, Social Security has helped millions retire with dignity and security. Rep. Sykes continues to lead the fight to protect and strengthen this essential program for future generations."
Sykes has represented Ohio's 13th district since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023 and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there, she holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
