Emilia Strong Sykes addresses Coast Guard anniversary and rail safety concerns

U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, recently posted several updates on her social media account, including statements on national celebrations and rail safety concerns.

On August 4, 2025, Sykes acknowledged the anniversary of the U.S. Coast Guard with a message of gratitude: "Happy Birthday, @USCG! For 234 years, members of the Guard have answered the call to keep us safe. Thank you for working tirelessly to protect our country."

Later that day, she addressed transportation safety issues and criticized federal leadership regarding rail safety: "Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says he cares about East Palestine, but meanwhile has taken no real action to ensure that a similar tragedy does not happen again in our country. Sykes began representing Ohio’s 13th district in Congress after succeeding Tim Ryan in 2023. She previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 until her congressional election. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
