Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district, marked the anniversary of NASA’s founding and highlighted the legacy of John Glenn and recent visits in Northeast Ohio through a series of social media posts on August 1, 2025.

In her first post at 16:52 UTC, Sykes stated, "The Glenn Research Center in Northeast Ohio proudly boasts the name of Ohioan John Glenn. He was selected in 1959 as one of NASA’s first astronauts, and in 1962, became the first American to orbit the earth and the fifth person ever in space. His legacy is a shining example of". The message references astronaut John Glenn's contributions to American space exploration.

In another tweet posted at the same time, Sykes recognized NASA's achievements: "This week marks the anniversary of the founding of NASA. Since its founding, NASA has led the way in space research, innovation, and technology. As a member of the Committee on Science, Space and Technology, Rep. Sykes is honored to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment https://t.co/Rno8qbJ24u".

Later that day at 21:19 UTC, she shared an update about congressional outreach activities: "Rep. Sykes was honored to welcome her Bipartisan Women’s Caucus Co-Chair @RepMonicaDLC to #OH13 to visit the @AkronChildrens Food Pharmacy and the First Ladies Library and Museum. https://t.co/CBlOf3Z1UB".

Sykes has represented Ohio's 13th District since replacing Tim Ryan in Congress in 2023 after previously serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. She was born in Akron, Ohio in 1986 and continues to reside there while serving her constituents. Her educational background includes degrees from Kent State University (BA) and a JD from the University of Florida.
