Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 13th district, has been active on social media discussing legislative measures and economic issues affecting her constituents. On July 9, 2025, she introduced a new bill and commented on recent legislation.
On July 9, Rep. Sykes announced the introduction of the Get Your Money Back Act aimed at simplifying tax filing processes for taxpayers. According to her tweet, "Rep. Sykes introduced the Get Your Money Back Act to help you keep more of your money this tax season. Rather than having to go through a tax preparer, you could file your taxes directly with the IRS, so you can save on filing fees and keep more of your refund."
Later that day, Rep. Sykes addressed misconceptions surrounding a recently signed reconciliation bill via another post. She stated: "Rep. Sykes is setting the record straight on the reconciliation bill that was recently signed into law: if a provision in this bill – like 'No Tax-On-Tips' – sounds too good to be true, it's because it is (unless you're a millionaire)."
On July 10, Rep. Sykes expressed concerns about rising home prices in Ohio through her tweet: "With home prices reaching record highs, many Ohioans are struggling to afford homeownership and some are being priced out of the neighborhoods they’ve lived in all of their lives." She emphasized the challenges homeowners face when competing with investors with significant financial resources.
Emilia Sykes has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986, she holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.
