Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a U.S. Congress member representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, has shared several updates via her social media account. Sykes, who succeeded Tim Ryan and previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022, uses her platform to highlight local achievements and initiatives.
On June 17, Rep. Sykes congratulated Daniela Scheffler of Lake High School for being named Champion of the Week for Ohio's 13th district. "Congratulations to Daniela Scheffler of Lake High School for being named this week’s Champion of the Week for #OH13! She recently earned a state title for the 3,200 meter race at Ohio Division I Track and Field Championships."
Later that day, she announced a renaming dedication on Wolf Ledges Parkway in Akron. "Rep. Sykes is pleased to announce that the Post Office on Wolf Ledges Parkway in Akron is now the 'Judge James R. Williams Post Office Building.' Judge Williams was a legal luminary, whose unwavering dedication to justice paved the way for future generations of leaders in Akron."
On June 18, Rep. Sykes encouraged students to participate in a tech competition aimed at fostering creativity among youth. "Be more than a tech user. Be a tech creator! Rep. Sykes encourages all middle and high school students in #OH13 to show off their creativity and compete in the Congressional App Challenge."
Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986 and currently residing there, Emilia Sykes graduated from Kent State University with a BA and holds a JD from the University of Florida.
