Rep. Emilia Sykes celebrates Zips men's basketball team and raises awareness on healthcare issues

Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a current U.S. Congress member representing Ohio's 13th district, has been actively engaging with her constituents through social media. Her posts cover a variety of topics, from local achievements to pressing national issues.

On March 30, 2025, Sykes extended her congratulations to the University of Akron's men's basketball team for their recent success. In her tweet, she stated, "Congratulations to @ZipsMBB for being named the Champions of the Week for #OH13 for recently earning the title of MAC Champions for the second year in a row! This acclaimed team is a shining example of why our district is known as the “Birthplace of Champions.” Go Zips!"

The following day, Sykes highlighted a serious issue regarding women's healthcare across the United States. On March 31, she noted in her tweet, "Across the country, pregnant women are being turned away from emergency rooms and doctors are facing criminal penalties for simply providing lifesaving care. Women should not have to prove that they are 'sick enough' to get the lifesaving care they need, even if that care is an..."

Sykes also took a moment on March 31, 2025, to appreciate local natural beauty in Ohio's 13th district. She remarked in her post, "You don't have to travel all the way to Washington D.C. to admire the cherry blossoms. We have beautiful cherry blossom trees all around #OH13, including on the Ohio & Erie Canalway Towpath Trail!"
