Emilia Strong Sykes highlights Marye Anne Fox's legacy and announces new coalition role

Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a U.S. Congress member representing Ohio's 13th district, shared a series of tweets on March 6, 2025, highlighting the achievements of chemist Marye Anne Fox and announcing her new role as Chair of the Housing Task Force of the New Democrat Coalition Working Group on Housing, Infrastructure, & Transportation.

In her first tweet, Rep. Sykes commemorated Marye Anne Fox's contributions to science. She wrote that "Marye Anne Fox was a chemist whose contributions to science helped advance innovations in material science and solar energy." The tweet also noted that Fox was born in Canton and was a pioneering woman in chemistry.

Continuing her tribute to Fox, Rep. Sykes highlighted a significant recognition received by the chemist. She stated that "In 2010, Fox was awarded the National Medal of Science by President Barack Obama for her immensely impactful research in organic photochemistry and electrochemistry." Additionally, she mentioned that Fox passed away in 2021 at the age of 73.

In another update on March 6, Rep. Sykes announced her new leadership position within the New Democrat Coalition Working Group on Housing, Infrastructure, & Transportation. She expressed enthusiasm about this role by stating "Rep. Sykes looks forward to getting to work as the Chair of the Housing Task Force."
