Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio's 13th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently shared a series of tweets highlighting the achievements and contributions of Judge James R. Williams. On February 1, 2025, Rep. Sykes announced the enactment of legislation honoring Judge Williams by renaming a post office in Akron.

In a tweet posted on February 1, 2025, Rep. Sykes stated, "For his outstanding devotion to our community, a bill introduced by Rep. Sykes was recently signed into law to designate the post office on Wolf Ledges Parkway in Akron as the Judge James R. Williams Post Office."

Another tweet from the same date described Judge Williams' impact beyond his judicial career: "Judge Williams’ distinguished service continued in his private life as a civil rights activist, leader of many civic organizations, and a pioneer in providing housing for moderate- and low-income families and senior citizens."

Highlighting his diverse roles and accomplishments, Rep. Sykes noted in her third tweet on February 1: "First up is Judge James R. Williams, who was a U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, civil rights leader, Akron City Councilman, Summit County Court of Common Pleas Judge, and was among the first African Americans to graduate from the University of Akron School of Law."
