On November 23, Rep. Sykes announced an event aimed at empowering young women in science and technology: "Join Team Sykes for our upcoming Girls in S.T.E.A.M. App Building Bootcamp! The event is open to all middle school girls in #OH13." The bootcamp encourages participation from middle school girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).
Two days later, on November 25, she reported significant funding awarded by the Department of Justice: "Rep. Sykes recently announced that the DOJ awarded $652,707 to Walsh University and Canton City Schools for the Canton City Middle School Violence Intervention and Prevention Program."
