Akron, Ohio — Due to forecasted high temperatures, Mayor Horrigan has announced that the City of Akron will extend hours at four community “cooling centers” on Friday, July 28. The four community centers (Lawton, Mason Park, Patterson Park, and Summit Lake) will be open from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM. Summer camps at those locations will still proceed as usual. All other community centers are also open to the public during their normal business hours and will have water available for anyone in need. “We are extending hours at four locations to ensure residents of all ages can escape the heat, even in the evening,” said Mayor Horrigan. “We also encourage all our residents to check in on their neighbors and family members who may be vulnerable to these high temperatures and take steps to keep children and pets well hydrated, rested, and out of the sun.”
