Akron, Ohio — On June 15, the City of Akron announced that residents can subscribe to receive a weekly e-newsletter emailed directly to their inboxes. “We’ve heard from residents that they want the ability to receive news directly from the city through more than just social media or the city website,” said Chief Communications Officer, Stephanie Marsh. “This e-newsletter will keep residents informed with a weekly rundown of important press releases and news as well as upcoming weekend events. For residents who don’t often use social media, this offers another way to receive information from the city in an easy to digest format.”

Akron had recently launched an email distribution list through the www.AkronUpdates.com site to push out timely safety information in the weeks immediately following the grand jury decision. Within a week, 3,000 residents had signed up to receive their news via email. Those residents will be automatically signed up for the newsletter.

The city is utilizing MailChimp to distribute emails directly to residents who subscribe. Those who opt-in will have the ability to unsubscribe at any time they choose. The only information collected is the email address which is entered when the resident subscribes.

“In the age of social media, it’s harder than ever to cut through the noise and deliver the most impactful news to Akronites,” said Jake Bell, Communications and Media Supervisor. “The new Akron Updates newsletter will deliver the top 5 things Akronites need to know each week, such as news from City Hall, community events, opportunities for engagement, and more; simplified and explained. We will send this on a weekly cadence so subscribers can always stay in the loop with what’s going on in their community.”
