City Of Akron Offices Closed For Thanksgiving

All municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

There will be no curb service on Thursday, November 24. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections for the remainder of the week, with curb service resuming on Friday, November 25 and continuing through Saturday, November 26. To get reminders and alerts about your household’s curb service schedule, please download the Akron Recycles app free on Android or Apple devices.

“Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to pause and give thanks for all of the blessings big and small that we experience every day,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “May we share the gratitude and appreciation of those blessings with those we hold dear this holiday. I want to wish all of Akron a happy and safe Thanksgiving.”

On Friday, November 25, the City of Akron and Lock 3 are kicking off this year’s Winterblast season with the Welcome Santa Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting. For the first time in the city’s history, the Welcome Santa Parade will be an evening parade featuring lighted floats, marching bands and of course, Santa. At the conclusion of the parade, Santa will light the City of Akron’s official tree and finish with fireworks thanks to Downtown Akron Partnership.

This year, the ice rink and activities for the winter season have been temporarily moved between the State Street bridge and Canal Park Stadium to accommodate the upcoming construction in Lock 3. For a full list of Winterblast events and reservations for outdoor attractions, please visit Lock3Live.com.

After the holiday, residents are encouraged to shop local on Saturday, Nov. 26 for Small Business Saturday. From our Great Streets Districts to Downtown to all of our local restaurants and breweries, there are plenty of options to get a great gift or gift card at a small business near you. Don’t forget to download the Akronite app to earn rewards while you do your holiday shopping locally.
