U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who serves Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, used her social media platform to criticize recent Republican legislative actions related to tax cuts and health care coverage.

On October 2, 2025, Sykes posted on X: "In the Big Ugly Bill, Republicans gave away over $5 trillion in tax cuts to the top 1%, and are forcing you to foot the bill by raising health insurance costs for those with Affordable Care Act plans."

Later that day, she added: "Republicans failed to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits in the Big Ugly Bill, leaving the 32,000 people in #OH13 who are covered under the ACA vulnerable to losing their health care. 6,000 already have. Yet, Republicans had no problem making permanent large tax cuts for"

On October 3, Sykes also posted a brief message: "It's showtime!"

Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th District since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan. She previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds a BA from Kent State University and a JD from the University of Florida.
