U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in Congress, posted several updates on October 1, 2025, addressing the government shutdown and extending holiday wishes to her constituents.
In a post from October 1 at 8:44 p.m., Rep. Sykes wrote, "Republicans control the House, Senate, and the White House, but are trying to blame anyone but themselves for this government shutdown. Rep. Sykes won't stop fighting to open the government and protect access to basic healthcare."

Later in the evening at 10:33 p.m., Rep. Sykes marked Yom Kippur by posting: "G'mar Chatima Tovah. Wishing everyone who celebrates in #OH13 a meaningful Yom Kippur. May this be a time of reflection and renewal."
Rep. Emilia Sykes has served as U.S. Representative for Ohio's 13th District since 2023, succeeding Tim Ryan after his departure from Congress that year. Before her current role in Congress, she was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 until 2022. Born in Akron, Ohio in 1986, Sykes continues to reside there and holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
