Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Ohio’s 13th district since 2023, posted a series of statements on September 11, 2025, reflecting on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks and advocating for legislative transparency.
In her first post commemorating the events of September 11, Sykes stated: "Today marks 24 years since the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. As we remember the lives lost, we honor the survivors, first responders, and families whose lives were forever changed on September 11, 2001." (posted on September 11, 2025).
Later that day, she highlighted her support for increased transparency regarding high-profile investigations: "Rep. Sykes signed the discharge petition in support of legislation that calls for a release of the Epstein Files. All House Democrats signed, along with four Republicans.
We still need one more House Republican to sign on. What are they waiting for? Release the files." (posted on September 11, 2025).
Sykes also reached out to her constituents through a survey: "Rep. Sykes wants to hear from YOU! Take our survey at https://t.co/ffiXbST6Dw to tell her about the issues that matter most to you and your family." (posted on September 11, 2025).
Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th district in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in January 2023 after serving in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, she holds degrees from Kent State University and earned her JD from the University of Florida.
