Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio's 13th district, shared a series of tweets reflecting on historical events and community engagements. Her messages covered a somber remembrance, legislative work, and cultural celebration.

On May 4, 2025, Rep. Sykes commemorated the tragic events at Kent State University that occurred on May 4, 1970. She wrote: "On May 4, 1970, four Kent State University students were shot and killed by members of the Ohio National Guard during a protest of the Vietnam War. Each year, we honor and remember the students who lost their lives on this tragic day."

Later that day, Rep. Sykes highlighted her recent activities in Washington D.C., advocating for her district before returning home to celebrate local milestones. She encouraged constituents to stay informed by signing up for her newsletter: "Rep. Sykes fought for #OH13 in Washington this week, before traveling back to the district to celebrate some important milestones in our community."

On May 5, she celebrated Cinco de Mayo with an acknowledgment of Mexican heritage and contributions from the Mexican-American community: "Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate Mexican heritage, resilience, and the vibrant contributions of our Mexican-American community."

Emilia Sykes has served in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023. Prior to her congressional role, she was part of the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, she is an alumna of Kent State University with further legal education from the University of Florida.
