Ohio's Rep. Emilia Sykes discusses historical figures and current taxpayer protection efforts

Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 13th district, shared a series of tweets on March 10, 2025. The tweets reflect on historical figures and contemporary political issues.

In one tweet, Rep. Sykes acknowledged Ida McKinley, who was the First Lady of the United States and wife to President William McKinley. She highlighted that McKinley served in the White House from 1897 to 1901. "Ida McKinley was the First Lady of the United States and wife to President William McKinley, who served in the White House from 1897 to 1901."

Another tweet noted First Lady McKinley's support for her husband throughout his political career as Congressman, Governor of Ohio, and President. Rep. Sykes also mentioned that Ida McKinley passed away in 1907. "First Lady McKinley saw her husband’s rise through politics as a Congressman, Governor of Ohio, and President of the United States. She passed away in 1907."

On a different note, Rep. Sykes addressed current political concerns by highlighting efforts by House Democrats to protect American taxpayers from cuts made by the Trump Administration to essential services. She encouraged constituents to share their personal stories with her via an online platform so she can better advocate for them. "House Democrats are fighting to protect American taxpayers from cuts that the Trump Administration is making to essential services. Rep. Sykes needs to hear your personal stories so she can work for you."
