Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes discusses worker rights and historical figures

Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a U.S. Congress member representing Ohio's 13th district since 2023, has been vocal on social media about workers' rights and historical figures from her home state. Sykes, who replaced Tim Ryan in Congress, has served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022 and holds degrees from Kent State University and the University of Florida.

On March 9, 2025, Rep. Sykes emphasized the importance of a new bill aimed at expanding opportunities for workers in her district and nationwide. She stated that "This bill will expand opportunity for workers in #OH13 and across the nation because when workers have the power to stand together and form a union, they have higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions."

In another post on the same day, she highlighted her role in reintroducing a significant piece of legislation. According to Rep. Sykes' tweet dated March 9, 2025: "Rep. Sykes led the reintroduction of the bipartisan Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to protect the basic rights of workers to join a union."

Additionally, on March 10, 2025, Rep. Sykes shared insights into First Lady McKinley's life and contributions. She tweeted about McKinley's educational achievements and work history: "First Lady McKinley was born in Canton and was among the few women at the time who pursued higher education, attaining what would equate to a Masters of Fine Arts today. Ida worked as a cashier – which was a controversial job for a woman to have at the time – at her father’s..."
