On February 13, 2025, Rep. Sykes reflected on the life and legacy of Sojourner Truth, highlighting her contributions during the Civil War and her continued activism post-war. "Throughout her life, Truth tirelessly fought against slavery, racism, and inequality. During the Civil War, she aided the Union cause, helping recruit Black troops and advocating for freed slaves."

In another tweet from the same day, Sykes celebrated a new landmark in Akron dedicated to Sojourner Truth. She emphasized the enduring impact of Truth's words on women's rights movements. "Her iconic words continue to dare women to challenge the status quo and fight for a more just and equitable world for everyone." The Sojourner Truth Legacy Plaza was unveiled on May 29, 2024.

Later that day, Rep. Sykes acknowledged the Canton Police Department's efforts to improve their practices by participating in de-escalation training following instances of excessive force usage. "Rep. Sykes applauds the Canton Police Department for participating in a four-week de-escalation training program following high profile confrontations in which the Department used excessive force."
