WASHINGTON, D.C.— On May 30, U.S. Representative Emilia Strong Sykes (OH-13) announced she has been confirmed as an Associate Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus for the 118th Congress:

“I am humbled and honored to join the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. My district has a growing Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander population, so this opportunity will allow me to engage with fellow members of Congress who share a similar commitment to AANHPI issues,” said Rep. Sykes. “Together, we can amplify the voices and experiences of diverse communities, forging a path toward a more inclusive America and be responsive to the needs of every segment of our population. Our strength lies in embracing our unique identities and working collectively to build bridges, break barriers, and create a brighter future for all.”

The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander population, the fastest growing racial group in the nation, currently accounts for over 21 million Americans and over 6 percent of the country’s total population. From speaking out against anti-Asian hate and pushing back on xenophobic anti-China rhetoric to increasing language access and data disaggregation and protecting the civil rights of our communities, CAPAC will remain focused on the wide range of AANHPI issues and ensure their voices are uplifted in Congress. The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) population is the fastest growing racial group in the nation and currently accounts for over 21 million Americans, making up over 6 percent of the country’s total population. CAPAC’s new Executive and Associate Members will help bolster the Caucus’s ability to be a voice for AANHPI communities across the country.

Ohio’s 13th District is home to 49,493 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islanders, approximately six percent of the district’s population.
