The Kent State men's basketball team (1-0)  is moving on to the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Tournament championship game after a 73-63 win over New Mexico State. Kent State has not won the Sun Bowl Title since 1999. The Flashes will take on the winner of the North Carolina A&T and UTEP game Thursday, Dec. 22 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Despite foul trouble throughout the game, the Flashes were able to put points on the board and get the job done. Malique Jacobs poured out a game-high 17 points and Sincere Carry followed with 15 points. Carry also recorded a team-high four steals and three assists.

New Mexico State kept the Flashes on their toes, outshooting the Flashes from the field 46.6 to 40.7 percent. New Mexico State also took advantage of second chance points outscoring Kent 16-5.

Miryne Thomas' nine points in tonight's game left him only three points away from 1,000 career points. Thomas also cleaned the boards with a team-high nine rebounds. Once again the Flashes had a bench that continued to contribute significantly. VonCameron Davis scored double-digits (12) and Jalen Sullinger chipped in seven.

Tomorrow's game will finish the Flashes' non-conference schedule before taking on their MAC schedule in the new year on Tuesday, Jan. 2 against Western Michigan inside the M.A.C. Center.
