Flashes Open Mid-Week Slate vs Pitt

3

The Kent State Golden Flashes are set to open the mid-week home portion of their schedule on Tuesday night, welcoming in the Pitt Panthers for a 6 p.m. first pitch.

The Flashes are coming off of a split with Bowling Green last weekend, winning the final two games in walk-off fashion. Mike McNamara's sac fly brought home Kyle Jackson on Sunday, giving the Flashes a 4-3 win. The victory put the exclamation point on an excellent start by freshman lefty Eric Chalus who allowed just an earned run and struck out 11 in 6.2 innings pitched.

It has been a balanced offensive attack for Kent State this season. All nine traditional starters for the Flashes have driven in and scored 12 or more runs this season. The ball club leads the MAC with a .292 batting average.

Pitt comes into the matchup at 18-12 overall, having taken two of three against Boston College last weekend and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Like Kent State, Pitt has a balanced offensive attack with nine players having driven in 15 or more runs so far this season. Tatem Levins leads the team with 10 homers and 30 driven in this season.

On the mound, Tyler Kennedy and Ben Dragani have been the opener during mid-week games. Kennedy got the start in their last mid-week game against Youngstown State. Both teams are expected to use multiple pitchers, using Tuesday's contest as a live bullpen session.

Tuesday night will also feature plenty of games and giveaways. The first 100 fans will get a baseball "bingo" card to play along with the game. Fans who complete a standard bingo can turn in their card for a prize, while supplies last. The concession stand will be open throughout the game (and is cashless this season) while beer sales will last through the sixth inning.

Following Tuesday's game, Kent State heads to Toledo this weekend for a four-game set. The series opener on Friday is set for 3 p.m.
