Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of messages on September 26, 2025, addressing issues ranging from military service academy applications to health care coverage and food assistance programs.
In a post published at 14:00 UTC, Sykes thanked attendees of an event focused on military academies: "Thanks to everyone who came to Academy Day to learn more about attending one of the U.S. Military Service Academies. The decision to apply to a Service Academy is a personal one and one of the most selfless forms of service to our community and our country.

Later that day, at 21:00 UTC, she highlighted the impact of federal healthcare policy in her district: "In #OH13, 29,000 people, or 90% of people who receive healthcare coverage through the Affordable Care Act, utilize Premium Tax Credits to keep their monthly premiums low. If Republicans allow these tax credits to expire, monthly premiums will skyrocket an average of $720 https://t.co/cxVaxmO1CR".
At 22:58 UTC on the same day, Sykes criticized recent legislative actions regarding food assistance and tax policy: "In the Big Ugly Bill, Republicans chose to put the nearly 100,000 Ohioans who receive SNAP benefits at risk of losing access to healthy foods. All while, Republicans funded a massive tax break for billionaires. https://t.co/G03vICRVHN".
Sykes has represented Ohio’s 13th District in Congress since replacing Tim Ryan in 2023. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 until 2022. Born in Akron in 1986 and currently residing there at age 37, Sykes holds degrees from Kent State University (BA) and the University of Florida (JD).
