The Golden Flashes start a five-game road trip on Wednesday afternoon with a trip to the Steel City to take on the Pitt Panthers.
It is the Flashes first trip to Pittsburgh since the 2019 season after multiple attempts last year were rained out. Kent State rolls into town riding a 13-game winning streak, the longest for the team since the 2012 season. The Flashes wrapped up a perfect 8-0 home stand with an 11-2 win on Monday over MAAC pre-season favorite Canisius, capping a sweep of the three-game series.
Aidan Longwell earned his second Mid-American Conference Player of the Week award after hitting .500 over four games last week and driving in 14 runs. The junior leads Division-I with 40 runs driven in this season. He is also the projected starter for Wednesday's game. The lefty is 1-0 with a 1.72 earned run average with 24 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.
Pitt comes into the game at 8-9 on the season and 1-1 at home. The Panthers hit .262 as the team and average about seven runs per game. Noah Martinez has been their best offensive player, hitting .350 on the season and leads the team with six homers and 24 batted in. Their pitching staff has tossed to a 6.24 team earned run average with hitters batting .291 against them.
Wednesday's game will start at 3 p.m. and will stream on ACC Digital Network Extra, which is part of the Watch ESPN family of networks. The Panthers will also provide live stats for the game, both links are on the baseball schedule page.
The road trip continues this weekend with a big three game series at Central Michigan. The series will start on Friday with a 3 p.m. start time.
