Three members of the Kent State gymnastics team have earned yearly honors from the Mid-American Conference, the league office announced on Saturday.
Rachel DeCavitch, Karlie Franz, and Alyssa Guns were all named Second Team All-MAC. Kent State had the most gymnasts recognized by the MAC with three, while Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, and Western Michigan all had two All-MAC honorees.
DeCavitch has now won Second Team All-MAC every season that she has competed. The senior leads the Golden Flashes in total points and boasts the highest NQS on the team on bars and beam (9.830) as well as serves as the lone all-around competitor. Against Ball State, DeCavitch scored a career-high 39.425 in the all-around and won on bars.
This marks the second Second Team nod for Franz, who earned the same award a season ago. The senior has excelled this season on bars and beam but has shone brightest on floor. Franz has scored a 9.9+ mark with her floor routine in six consecutive meets that she has competed in, highlighted by career-high 9.925s against NIU and Central Michigan. Franz ranks second in the MAC on floor with an NQS of 9.905.
Like Franz, Guns also earned Second Team All-MAC recognition for the second year running. The sophomore competed primarily on beam and floor, excelling on both. Guns hit on all but one beam routine over the course of the regular season, including a 9.900 against Ball State. She is also tied with Franz with the second-highest NQS on floor in the conference (9.905). Guns eclipsed the 9.90 mark on floor five times during the regular season, including season-high 9.950 at Ohio State
The Flashes will be back in action this afternoon at the 2023 MAC Gymnastics Championship in the M.A.C. Center. The meet begins at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
