Value of Akron-based Utilities company FirstEnergy Corp. (FE:NYQ) fell 46.6% on Sept. 22

Value in Utilities stocks fell 4.4 percent on Sept. 22 from the previous day.

The strongest performing Utilities company in Ohio was FirstEnergy Corp. (FE:NYQ), dropping 46.6 percent to sell at $40.49.

Avalon Holdings Corp. (AWX:ASQ) fared the worst among Ohio companies, suffering a 58.9 percent drop to $2.88.

Among Akron companies, FirstEnergy Corp. (FE:NYQ) saw the biggest fall in value of 46.6 percent on Sept. 22.

The Real Estate sector was the daily best-performing sector on the market.

Telecommunications was the worst-performing sector.

Healthcare and technology stocks are viewed as the safest bets for long-term gains.

Besty Kuekcer with Benzinga.com said healthcare-related stocks, such as hospital conglomerates and insurance companies, have weathered numerous economic crises and still make a profit, suggesting that they are generally a stable investment.

While technology stocks can be more risky, given the boom-bust nature of new tech companies, Kuecker recommended a diverse portfolio of tech companies to strike it big when companies succeed or sell to other larger companies.

For short-term investments, Kuecker recommended “consumer discretionary” stocks, which are sensitive to economic changes but can rise greatly on the back of a strong economy.
