Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, representing Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, made several public comments through her social media account on March 27, 2025. In her statements, Sykes touched on two important issues: the safety of infant nutrition and alleged security breaches involving classified information.

On March 27, Sykes announced the reintroduction of the INFANTS Act, aimed at improving the safety standards for baby formula. The proposed legislation intends to require nutrition testing to prevent contamination and “keep our babies safe and healthy.” She emphasized the importance of codifying the actions of the HHS and FDA in response to contamination concerns.

In a related statement posted on the same day, Sykes addressed parental concerns regarding the content of baby food. She stated that “parents have enough on their plates – they shouldn’t have to worry if the food they are feeding their infants and toddlers contains dangerous amounts of toxic heavy metals like lead or arsenic.” Her comments highlighted the need for regulated safety standards in baby food manufacturing.

Later on March 27, Sykes expressed alarm over actions by the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, regarding what she described as the mishandling of classified information. In her post, she noted the seriousness of Hegseth’s actions, explaining that by disclosing sensitive information, “he put American soldiers’ lives at risk.” She reiterated the personal impact of such risks by referencing the soldiers’ familial roles.
