On December 4, 2024, Rep. Sykes expressed her condolences for Ohio Senator Kirk Schuring’s passing. She acknowledged his long-standing commitment to serving Stark County and described him as “a truly phenomenal individual” who was “a dedicated public servant who always put the people first.” The tweet can be viewed here.

The following day, December 5, 2024, she commemorated Rosa Parks’ pivotal role in the civil rights movement by highlighting Parks’ refusal to give up her bus seat on December 5, 1955. Rep.
