Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Ohio’s 13th district, shared a series of tweets reflecting on historical events and community engagements. Her messages covered a somber remembrance, legislative work, and cultural celebration.

On May 4, 2025, Rep. Sykes commemorated the tragic events at Kent State University that occurred on May 4, 1970. She wrote: “On May 4, 1970, four Kent State University students were shot and killed by members of the Ohio National Guard during a protest of the Vietnam War. Each year, we honor and remember the students who lost their lives on this tragic day.”

On May 5, she celebrated Cinco de Mayo with an acknowledgment of Mexican heritage and contributions from the Mexican-American community: “Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate Mexican heritage, resilience, and the vibrant contributions of our Mexican-American community.”
