Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes, who represents Ohio’s 13th district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted several community recognitions and observances in a series of posts between March 15 and March 17, 2026.

On March 15, Sykes announced her selection of eight Women’s History Project Woman of the Year Award winners as Champions of the Week for Ohio’s 13th District. She stated: “This week, I named the eight Women’s History Project Woman of the Year Award winners the Champions of the Week for #OH13! This includes one of my own staff members, Khatonia Ford. Thank you to Khatonia and all of the award winners for making such meaningful contributions to our”.

The following day, on March 16, Sykes recognized American Red Cross Month by acknowledging those involved with the organization: “March is American Red Cross Month. This month, we honor the many volunteers, donors, and dedicated staff who support this vital organization and its lifesaving work.”

On March 17, she marked St. Patrick’s Day with a message to her constituents: “Wishing everyone in #OH13 a very happy St. Patrick’s Day! May your day be filled with community and good cheer!”

Sykes has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Tim Ryan and previously held office in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2015 to 2022. Born in Akron in 1986, she continues to reside there. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and a law degree from the University of Florida.
